General information on medical treatment
1.Ergosterol is one the main components of the yeast cell walls, but it is not a component of the human membrane. Azole drugs whose names end with the suffix “-azole” prevent the manufacture of ergosterol and thus destroys the yeast cells.
2.Nystatin and Amphotericin B belong to Polylene anti-fungal drugs which destroy the walls of the yeast cells. Amphotericin B drugs are administered only by doctors for severe cases.
While minor cases of yeast infections can be treated with over-the-counter medicines severe and persistent cases must be reported to a doctor.
